CHLORINE DEMAND CAN MEAN CLOUDY WATER
Hot weather usually means that more people will be enjoying their pools. The increased temperature also puts additional stress on chlorine which results in increased consumption. The warmer temperatures, together with a lack of sanitizer residual, will also contribute to algae growth. As you can imagine, an issue that can be worsened by hot weather is chlorine demand.
Chlorine demand is simply the difference between the chlorine applied and the chlorine remaining. For example, if you apply 8 ppm of chlorine to the water and have 3 ppm left then you had a small demand of 5 ppm which has been satisfied. But what if you had a much bigger demand than 5 ppm? Maybe 20 ppm? Or even 50 ppm? These are situations where you could apply chlorine products and still show no chlorine reading. Have Bonsall Pool & Spa run an AccuDemand30TM Test and it will tell you exactly how much chlorine to apply in order to satisfy the chlorine demand in just 30 minutes. Bonsall Pool & Spa is the only company in Lincoln with this technology. Computerized Water Analysis and AccuDemand Tests are free to our customers. Brign in your pool or spa water sample today and swim in clean clear water tomorrow.
Hot weather, rainfall and heavy swimmer loads are some of the things that can cause or intensify chlorine demand. The following are typical warning signs:
Inability to hold chlorine level
Sudden loss of chlorine
Chlorine level bounce
Cloudy water
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Prevent a small chlorine demand from becoming a large one through routine maintenance. Since a wide variety of natural and man-made products can contribute to chlorine demand, it's important to remember that there will be times when additional oxidation is required. For instance, after a party, after a heavy rain or when fill water is added. To help keep chlorine demand under control:
Oxidize regularly
Maintain proper sanitizer residuals
Check for combined chlorine and add additional product if necessary
Recognize signs early
